According to water.org, 1 in 9 people today lack access to safe water. This is a challenge high on the agenda of many governments, with the United Nations including “Ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all” in its Sustainable Development Goals, which are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership.
As an advisory firm focused on the water industry, Amane Advisors serves many clients dedicated to delivering solutions in line with this goal, be it utilities aiming to connect more people to the distribution network or digital/treatment technology providers looking for more efficient ways to save/treat water.
Last year, we had the opportunity to deliver even more direct impact on providing access to clean water by supporting the work of social enterprise Danone Communities.
Danone Communities is a French private equity vehicle under Danone, a global food company aiming to bring health to the greatest number of people. In water, Danone Communities is a catalyst in spreading the Safe Water Enterprise model, also known as the Water Kiosk model.
“Amane Advisors is committed to ensuring that we contribute meaningfully to the well-being of the environment and society. We took on this project pro-bono to support Danone Communities and give us the opportunity to contribute to accelerating access to clean water.” – Thierry Noel
Having successfully deployed over 400 water kiosks in countries like Haiti, Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda, Danone Communities was looking to further increase its social impact by replicating the model in other countries.
Amane Advisors stepped in to connect Danone Communities with potential partners who would enable the deployment water kiosks, such as private network operators or municipalities. With a particular focus on the Asia-Pacific region, we leveraged the network of our local teams in China and Singapore who have been serving the region for several years.
“It was a great collaboration that leveraged our unique network in the water industry to help bring about a meaningful and lasting impact in areas that need water the most.” – Thierry Noel
The water kiosk concept was introduced to over 20 potential partners to identify concrete opportunities for partnership. The greatest opportunities were found in China, India and the Philippines in particular, with a potential to deploy over 100,000 water kiosks.
Amane Advisors is grateful for the opportunity to work with Danone Communities on this initiative to promote access to clean water. As with all our clients, their success is our success, and we strive to see Danone Communities’ initiatives succeed in the coming years.
